HC Deb 17 February 1947 vol 433 cc130-1W
100. Mr. Paton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what arrangements are contemplated to make available for the general reading public in Japan an adequate supply of British newspapers and periodicals.

Mr. Mayhew

A central library and reading room has been established in Tokyo by the United States Occupation authorities. Our information officer has always been able to have our newspapers, books and periodicals accepted here and they are available for all who care to make use of the premises. Under new regulations issued by Occupational G.H.Q. the importation and sale of books and periodicals will be facilitated 'and we are in touch with publishing houses in this country with a view to taking advantage of these facilities.
