asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will take immediate steps to abolish the import duty on steel imported from Belgium, not on public account, but by private companies who have been authorised to acquire the material by the Ministry of Supply.

Mr. Belcher

No, Sir. My right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply is importing on public account supplies that are essential, and we can see no sufficient reason to recommend remission of duty for other supplies that his Department authorises to be imported privately.
