HC Deb 14 February 1947 vol 433 cc112-4W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what are the numbers of civil servants and the Departments to which they belong now located in provincial towns throughout the country; and whether he will give, in the form of a table, the regional centres of various Departments or branches of Departments, stating the town in which they are located, the type of accommodation they occupy and the dates when such accommodation is likely to be evacuated.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

The approximate numbers of civil servants outside London, and the Departments which employ them, are set out in Table I. In addition to the Departments shown in the list, the Service and Supply Departments employ considerable civilian staffs outside London, but separate figures for this part of their staff are not readily available. The Departments having Regional organisations, and the towns in which the Regional centres are located, are shown in Table II. They occupy accommodation of all types (Crown owned, rented, leased, requisitioned, temporary, etc.), but it would absorb more Civil Service manpower than is justifiable in present circumstances to attempt a catalogue of the further particulars requested. I understand that the Minister of Works will supply specific information, so far as practicable, in respect of any particular town or Department if the hon. Member will communicate with him.
