HC Deb 12 February 1947 vol 433 cc70-1W
104. Mr. G. Wallace

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General if he is aware of the large number of residents in the Chislehurst area awaiting telephone installations; and if he will take steps to reduce the present estimated period of 12 months for urgent works to be completed.

Mr. Burke

I am sorry to say that there are about 460 waiting applications for telephone service at Chislehurst, and to provide for them all it will be necessary to lay three miles of ducts and 18 miles of new cable, as well as to enlarge the exchange switchboard. This work will be carried out as quickly as possible, and it is hoped that about 350 applications will be met by the end of the year.
