HC Deb 12 February 1947 vol 433 c59W
67. Squadron-Leader Kinghorn

asked the Minister of Food if he will lift the ban on the export of kippers so that they can be sent to hard currency countries and so help this country to earn more dollars.

Dr. Summerskill

The export of kippers has been permitted since last summer on a limited scale, and a small quantity has gone to hard currency countries. While I hope it may be possible to increase exports this year I fear it will be necessary to retain export control in the interest of the home consumer.
