HC Deb 12 February 1947 vol 433 cc57-8W
30. Mr. Randall

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what number of people in Vienna, up to the latest date, are suffering from hunger œdema, and the percentage increase of tuberculosis since 1938.

Mr. J. Hynd

There are no known cases of hunger œdema in Vienna except among certain recently returned prisoners of war. The incidence of all forms of tuberculosis in 1938 was 1.28 per thousand. The rate for the whole of 1946 was 2.95, an increase of 130 per cent., but this is not comparable since it includes the late registration of many cases not recorded currently in 1945 owing to the disruption of the public health services in that year.
