HC Deb 11 February 1947 vol 433 cc39-40W
75. Sir T. Moore

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will give an estimate of the value in sterling of the consumer goods designated for export which were not produced during the period 1st to 14th January owing to the shortage of industrial fuel.

Mr. Belcher

No, Sir. I regret that it is not possible to provide such an estimate.

76. Mr. Prescott

asked the President of the Board of Trade what it is estimated will be the loss in production by firms dependent on the steel industry following the 25 per cent. cut in coal allocation to that industry.

Mr. Belcher

Many of the firms dependent on the steel industry for raw materials have their own coal allocations reduced by amounts up to 5o per cent. I do not think that shortage of steel will be the principal cause of loss of production in these firms during the next few weeks.
