HC Deb 10 February 1947 vol 433 cc21-2W
104. Mr. Ernest Davies

asked the Minister of Labour the reason for the dismissal of women conductors employed by the L.P.T.B., despite the continuing manpower shortage.

Mr. Ness Edwards

The discharge of women conductors by the London Passenger Transport Board, which I understand has now been discontinued, is a matter for the Board. I would point out, however, that the shortage of women for employment in London is more serious than that of men, and any women conductors discharged will be easily placed in other work for which they are urgently needed.
