Mr. D. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Transport it he is aware that considerable inconvenience is caused to many people in West Wales through lack of suitable transport to convey them between their homes and their places of employment; that in some cases the horns agreed between the management and the trade unions cannot be worked because of transport difficulties; and if he will take the necessary steps to improve the position.

I assume that my hon. Friend refers to difficulties at the Fforestfach Trading Estate and at the I.C.I. factory at Waunarlwydd. In regard to the former, a proposal to introduce a new road service between Swansea and the estate will he heard by the area traffic commissioners at a public sitting shortly, and the possibility of staggering the hours of work at the estate is also being examined. The immediate problem at Waunarlwydd is a question of fares, and

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that difficulties are being caused at the Hirwaun Trading Estate, Glamorganshire, by the inadequate transport facilities now provided for the employees; that further intake of labour is prejudiced through lack of transport; and whether, in view of the widespread unemployment that exists in the area, he will take immediate steps to deal with this matter.

I have now written to my hon. Friend on this subject pointing out that a solution of the difficulties lies in the direction of a greater use of the rail facilities available and a staggering of working hours at the trading estate.
