HC Deb 05 February 1947 vol 432 c372W
Mr. Stubbs

asked the Minister of Education if she is aware that the last Burnham award was rejected by the four secondary associations and was imposed on them against their will; that since the last Burnham award there has been a movement out of the grammar school part of the profession; and what steps she is taking to deal with the situation.

Miss Wilkinson

The present scales of salaries for primary and secondary schools were submitted in accordance with Section 89 of the Education Act, 1944, to the Minister by the Burnham committee, on which the joint four secondary associations are represented. I have no information on the second part of the Question. The scales continue in operation until 31st March, 1948, and it will shortly be necessary for the committee to consider scales to operate after that date.
