HC Deb 05 February 1947 vol 432 c354W
78. Mr. T. Reid

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what new houses, huts or other living accommodation have been provided by him in the British zone of Germany.

Mr. J. Hynd

The only new living accommodation provided—from British sources is 10,450 Nissen huts, of which 3,100 are already occupied. In addition 60 prefabricated houses and a hostel to accommodate 60 persons are in course of erection for miners in the Ruhr. It will be appreciated that it has been imperative to concentrate available manpower and materials on the repair of damaged dwellings to a habitable standard.
