§ 1. Mr. Butcherasked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether his attention has been called to the long waits endured by the public in many post offices due to the inadequate number of clerks; and what steps he is taking to provide a speedier service.
§ Mr. BurkeYes, Sir, I regret that the large increase in business at post office counters, which is now 50 per cent. greater than before the war, has led to some delay in serving the public. The possibilities of reorganising counter working have, I am afraid, already been practically exhausted, but my noble Friend is hopeful that the position will improve as more accommodation and permanent trained staff become available.
