§ 99. Mr. T. Reidasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if any air-conditioned quarters have yet been provided in tropical Colonies to enable officers to get refreshing sleep and thus promote their health and efficiency.
Mr. Creech JonesI am not aware that any Colonial Government has yet been able to provide air-conditioned quarters for its officers. My hon. Friend will appreciate that developments of this kind have hardly been possible during the last seven years. In July, 1946, however, my predecessor sent to all Colonial Governments notes compiled by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Medical Research Council on air-conditioning units for use in buildings in the tropics. I am having the whole question further investigated.
