HC Deb 04 February 1947 vol 432 cc334-5W
Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Minister of Food whether he will take steps to remedy the shortage of soap and soap-flakes in the areas of New Malden and Worcester Park, Surrey.

Mr. Strachey

The position in the New Malden and Worcester Park areas has been investigated and I am satisfied that there is sufficient soap of all types to honour the consumers' rations. There has been, however, only a small margin of supplies and I have recently authorised manufacturers to increase distribution by 5 per cent. In addition, I have arranged for the coupons unused during period 7, which ended on 1st February, to be valid until 1st March. This will give people another chance to buy their rations.
