HC Deb 04 February 1947 vol 432 cc333-4W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that one of his officers refused to furnish information to a patient who desired to learn what dietetic allowances he was entitled to by the terms of the schedule circulated to doctors; and what authority there is for the ruling given by his officer that this information is issued for the use of medical practitioners only.

Mr. Strachey

The schedule referred to by the hon. Member is supplied to registered medical practitioners so that they may know the maximum quantity of food which may be authorised for certain specified illnesses, should they consider it necessary. No one is automatically entitled to these allowances, which were fixed after consultation with the Food Rationing (Special Diets) Advisory Committee. It would not be in the general interest to make the information public, since the medical profession alone can use and interpret it.
