HC Deb 03 February 1947 vol 432 c287W
Mr. D. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware of the continuous delay in the transport of coal from the colliery districts of South Wales; that large numbers of loaded coal wagons are held up for weeks in railway and dock sidings; and what action he proposes to Lake in the matter.

Mr. Barnes

I am not aware of any continuous delay in the transit of coal from the colliery districts of South Wales, although the recent bad weather has made railway operations difficult. Owing to uncertainty of shipping, also due to bad weather, wagons with coal for shipment must, from time to time, be held under load.
