asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he will consider the need for amending the Superannuation Act, 1834, whereby a Civil Service pensioner appointed to fill any office in the Civil Service must not receive any pension which, when added to pay and emoluments, would exceed his pay and emoluments on retirement.

No, Sir. I assume the hon. Member is referring to Section 20 of the Superannuation Act, 1834, under which the pension payable during any period of re-employment is restricted to the amount, if any, by which pre-retirement pay exceeded pay on reemployment. I cannot agree that this is an unreasonable provision.
