HC Deb 03 February 1947 vol 432 c291W
105. Sir R. Young

asked the Minister of Works whether he is aware that 50 aluminium temporary houses were supplied to the urban district council of Newton, Lancashire, and that, with these houses, details were given how heating by means of ducts should be controlled; that these houses are now occupied but no ducts have been fitted in them, with the result that complaints alleging extreme coldness have been made by the tenants; and why a year will probably elapse before heating ducts are supplied to this type of house which are stated to have been constructed by Messrs. Vickers Armstrongs, Chester.

Mr. Tomlinson

I am advised by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply that the first aluminium temporary houses were not fitted with heating ducts before leaving the factories. Arrangements have been made to supply all these houses with ducts as soon as possible, and work on the houses at Newton is due to start almost immediately.
