HC Deb 19 December 1947 vol 445 c452W
Mr. C. Poole

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that Joe Louis is to receive 80,000 dollars plus expenses payable in dollars in this country for his appearances in Britain; and whether he will, in view of our dollar situation take steps to prevent any such payment and insist that if this artist wishes to earn money here he shall be paid in the currency of this country.

Sir S. Cripps

If Mr. Louis earns this prodigious sum here he is entitled, like any other visiting American, to the dollar equivalent after meeting his expenses and tax liabilities.
