asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will take steps to accelerate the release of men in the Technical Arms for whom it has not been possible to find employment in the trades for which they have been trained and for which they have been recommended by Selection Officers.

There is in general both a shortage of soldiers in the technical corps and especially of trained tradesmen in these corps. In these circumstances I should obviously not be justified in accelerating the release of trained tradesmen in the technical corps. Cases in which men in technical corps are not employed in their proper trades are isolated ones and have been due to special conditions in certain theatres.
