HC Deb 19 December 1947 vol 445 cc424-5W
Mr. McKay

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that the decision of the National Joint Council made on 31st July last, to raise the salaries of registration officers and the new scales to be retrospective to 1st April, 1947, has not been implemented; that officers who are now retiring are thus losing this increased payment and are also receiving less superannuation; and if he will, therefore, arrange that registration officers who are now retiring will receive the arrears of payment and the equivalent increase in their superannuation, and also that the new salaries be paid at an early date.

Mr. Bevan

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on 18th Decem- ber to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for South Salford (Mr. Hardy). It was necessary before advising local authorities on the recommendations of the National Joint Council to obtain the views of the central associations representing the local authorities and registration officers. The date from which the recommendations should apply is a matter for consideration by the local authority concerned.
