HC Deb 19 December 1947 vol 445 cc462-3W
Mr. Pritt

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what sums of money are held in this country to the credit of, and what debts are owed by His Majesty's Government in this country to, any past or present government of any past or present colony, protectorate or state in the Malay Peninsula.

Mr. Rees-Williams

The Crown Agents for the Colonies hold cash and investments totalling approximately £9 millions and £20 millions on behalf of the Governments of Singapore and the Malayan Union respectively; in addition there are cash and investments amounting approximately to £58 millions held on behalf of the Malayan Currency Commissioners. Apart from United Kingdom Government securities included in those holdings, there are no debts owed by His Majesty's Government to the Governments referred to by the hon. and learned Member.
