HC Deb 19 December 1947 vol 445 cc441-2W
Mr. Edward Davies

asked the Minister of National Insurance where the administrative staff which will operate the National Insurance Act covering people resident in North Staffordshire will be located.

Mr. Steele

My right hon. Friend is planning to have 12 local offices to deal with the day-to-day National Insurance business of the people resident in North Staffordshire. Up to date suitable premises have been obtained at Burslem, Chesterton, Hanley, Leek, Stone and Tunstall. The search for premises in the six remaining places is being vigorously pressed, but, as will be appreciated, the difficulties are formidable. In cases where suitable premises for a completely equipped office are not secured before the Appointed Day small offices will be opened at which claims can be received and information and advice given. These local offices will operate under the supervision of the Regional Controller whose headquarters is in Birmingham.
