HL Deb 17 December 1947 vol 153 cc329-30WA
VISCOUNT SIMON

asked His Majesty's Government whether any and what res- triction is placed on the quantities of tobacco (including cigars and cigarettes) sent from this country to the Channel Islands; what quantity was, in fact, so sent in the year 1947; and what expenditure in dollars does this represent.

Lord CHORLEY

No restrictions are placed on the quantities of tobacco goods sent from this country to the Channel Isles. The quantity exported up to 31st October, 1947 (the latest date for which figures are available) is 481,837 1b. These tobacco goods do not contain 100 per cent. dollar tobacco, and, as the Board of Trade do not know the proportions of such tobacco used in their manufacture, they are unable to say what is the dollar cost.

House adjourned at twenty minutes before five o'clock.
