HC Deb 15 December 1947 vol 445 c284W
99. Mr. Sharp

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has considered the representations made to him by the Spenborough Committee for the Prevention of Accidents about the action required to reduce the risk of accidents at the Chain Bar Crossroad, Cleckheaton; and whether, in view of his inability to provide funds for a roundabout, he will approve the painting of "Halt" signs on the roadways so that these may be seen by vehicles travelling with dipped headlights.

Mr. Barnes

Yes. But the painting of the word "Halt" on the road, which would be contrary to the recommendations of the 1944 Departmental Committee on Traffic Signs, is not the best means to adopt. I am suggesting to the Council ways in which the "Halt" signs can be made more effective, particularly at night.
