HC Deb 15 December 1947 vol 445 cc280-1W
95. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that the exporter for the Russian trade delegation paid one Lincolnshire farmer £96 less for his sheep than had been previously agreed owing to bad shipping arrangements; that sheep were kept in wagons over 48 hours; that s.s. "Pulkovo" was three days overdue in sailing; that extra charges of £1,528 were incurred owing to the inefficient arrangements made by his Department; and if he will investigate the matter and make a statement.

Mr. Barnes

The shipping arrangements for these sheep were made by the Russian Purchasing Commission and my Department was not concerned in the transaction. The "Pulkovo" is a Russian vessel.
