HC Deb 15 December 1947 vol 445 c298W
141. Mr. Bossom

asked the President of the Board of Trade when large pruning knives and budding knives will be available for the farmers of Kent.

Mr. Belcher

Shortage of steel and the necessity for expanding production for export have combined to produce a shortage of all types of cutlery for the home market. Within these limitations however favourable treatment in steel allocation is given to manufacturers of "tools of trade" for the home market, including pruning and budding knives. Supplies of these knives are distributed as fairly as possible and if the hon. Member knows of a particular case of difficulty I will do my best to help.
