HC Deb 15 December 1947 vol 445 c272W
72. Colonel Wheatley

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that 8 oz. of potatoes are issued to council schools for each child taking a midday meal in addition to the three pounds ordinary ration allowed to the child at home, whereas those children in preparatory and public schools are only given the ordinary ration; and will he take steps to rectify this discrimination.

Mr. Strachey

No, the children in public or preparatory schools also get a total of 5½ lb. a week of potatoes—the same as children attending day schools who get 3 lb. at home and 2½ lb. at school.
