HC Deb 15 December 1947 vol 445 c288W
Mr. Hollis

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the manpower shortage on the railways, the age for compulsory retirement of locomotive engine drivers can be generally raised to 65.

Mr. Barnes

The retiring age is 65, except on the Great Western Railway where it is 60 under an agreement entered into to meet the wishes of the men expressed through their elected representatives. I am bringing this matter to the attention of the British Transport Commission.
