HC Deb 11 December 1947 vol 445 c230W
78. Mr. Haire

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will increase the proportion of utility goods offered for sale as against non-utility goods, especially in the clothing trade.

Mr. Belcher

It is our policy while shortage conditions persist to maintain a high proportion of utility goods in the production of cloth and clothing. The present percentage, however, is on average between 75 and 80, and I do not think any substantial increase above this would be justified.
