HC Deb 11 December 1947 vol 445 c253W
Mr. Mallalieu

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether it is proposed to set up a volunteer reserve for the Royal Marines similar to the R.N.V.R.

Mr. Levy

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether it is proposed to set up a volunteer reserve for the Royal Marines similar to the R.N.V.R.

Mr. Dugdale

Yes. It is intended shortly to introduce the legislation necessary to establish a Reserve to be known as the Royal Marine Forces Volunteer Reserve. It is proposed that the conditions of service shall be generally similar to those of the R.N.V.R. It is probable that the first training centre will be established at Chatham and volunteers from the London area will be granted travelling expenses to this centre to perform their training at week-ends. Groups may be set up later at Portsmouth, Plymouth and other towns.
