HC Deb 11 December 1947 vol 445 cc226-7W
69. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the withdrawal of the basic petrol ration, he will give instructions that official cars used by Ministers and other servants of the Crown shall only be used for official duties and not for any private purpose; and if he will indicate that strong disciplinary action will be taken for any breach of this rule.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

Ministers of Cabinet rank may, on payment, use official cars for non-official journeys when such use contributes to the efficiency with which a Minister discharges his public duties. Other official cars may not be used for private purposes. Since the withdrawal of the basic petrol ration the attention of those concerned has been drawn to the need for strict observance of these rules.
