HC Deb 11 December 1947 vol 445 c250W
Sir P. Macdonald

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the decision of the Governors of Singapore and the Malayan Union to impose a 20 per cent. Company Profits Tax, in addition to Income Tax, is contrary to the advice of the Advisory Councils, which urged postponement of a decision [...]ntil the new Legislatures meet early next year; whether this decision of the Governors to over-ride the provisional Malayan Parliamentary organisation was taken after consultation with him; and whether he will make a full statement on the subject.

Mr. Rees-Williams

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave on 10th December to the hon. Member for Altrincham and Sale (Mr. Erroll).
