§ 85. Mr. Shephardasked the Minister of. Fuel and Power if he is aware that the coal and coke allocation for the Farringdon House approved school, near Exeter, is on the basis of four tons a year for each man and boy, and since the school managed on 164 tons last year, why this extra allocation has been made.
§ Mr. RobensYes. The allocation of coke to this school for the 12 months May, 1947, to April, 1948, was 240 tons, much less than the amount allocated for the preceding 12 months. Actual consumption of coal and coke, however, over the calendar year 1948 is estimated at only 168 tons, owing to the excellent saving achieved, in spite of the difficulties of heating the somewhat extensive premises, by the use of wood fuel and by rigid economy generally. An adjustment is being made to bring the allocation into line with coal and coke requirements.
