HC Deb 11 December 1947 vol 445 c227W
42. Lieut.-Colonel Bromley-Davenport

asked the President of the Board of Trade what are the principal United Kingdom exports which are liable to be affected by the recently agreed reductions in Imperial Preference.

Mr. Bottomley

Some reduction in Imperial Preference has been agreed over part of the field in most of the important export industries, such as textiles, motor cars, chemicals and pottery. But the reductions have been spread as widely as possible to avoid undue risk to any particular industry, and tariff concessions have also been secured in both Commonwealth and foreign markets. I have every confidence, therefore, that our exporters will be able to deal with the new situation.
