HC Deb 11 December 1947 vol 445 c236W
87. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether any individual warning is given to dental surgeons of impending power cuts.

Mr. Robens

No. This would be quite impracticable. But dentists practising in an area in which it has been possible to arrange a weekly rota system will normally be aware of which day of the week their supply is in danger of being cut.

105. Mr. Leslie

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he will make representations to electricity companies not to cut off supplies of electricity before 9 a.m. as an earlier hour creates inconvenience to many householders to be without light and heat in the dark winter mornings.

Mr. Robens

Cuts in electricity supplies have to be made when total consumers' demand exceeds the generating capacity of the supply undertakings. It is therefore not possible to postpone cuts. The representations suggested by my hon. Friend are in the circumstances hardly appropriate.
