HC Deb 11 December 1947 vol 445 c224W
Mr. Stubbs

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the shortage of blacksmiths in rural areas; what steps he has taken to provide training schemes; what is the number trained; and the number placed in agriculture.

Mr. Ness Edwards

After consultation with representatives of the industry and the Rural Industries Bureau, my right hon. Friend has established training classes at the Government Training Centres in Sheffield, Letchworth and Springburn and at the Rural Industries Bureau at Wimbledon. The number of men already trained is 101, of whom 93 have been placed in employment in agricultural districts.
