§ 64. Brigadier Raynerasked the Minister of Agriculture what are the numbers of pedigree cattle, sheep and pigs respectively exported from this country in the past 12 months; and whether he is satisfied that such export is not excessive in relation to our own needs to upgrade livestock.
§ Mr. T. WilliamsThe number of pedigree cattle, sheep and pigs exported in the last 12 months is not separately available. Breeding animals, almost all of which were pedigree stock, exported from the United Kingdom between November, 1946, and October, 1947. amounted to 1,443 cattle, 1,274 sheep, and 802 pigs. I am satisfied that these exportations will not unduly diminish our foundation stock, and that the export of first-class breeding animals for this country is an important and justifiable contribution to our export drive.
