§ Sir S. CrippsThe table on page seven of Cmd. 7268 refers to investment in different groups of plant and machinery, and not in different groups of industry. The types of specialised machinery included in the figure against the heading "Utilities, Coal, Steel, etc." are: Coal-mining machinery, iron and steel-making plant, electric generating plant, Gas Works' plant, Railway rolling stock and permanent way, civil aircraft, telephone and telegraphic equipment and agricultural machinery. The original forecast for 1948 cannot be divided in this way.
