HC Deb 04 December 1947 vol 445 cc92-3W
72. Sir P. Hannon

asked the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been called to the shortage of plain crockery in household equipment; and if production in the Potteries can be directed to this household need rather than to fancy goods.

Mr. Belcher

I am aware of the shortage of plain crockery and I am satisfied that the manufacturers are co-operating in trying to relieve it so far as their export commitments allow. Fancy goods are, however, in demand for export and without dislocating production it is not possible to prohibit the sale on the home market of export rejects and small token quantities of fancy goods.
