HC Deb 04 December 1947 vol 445 c105W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether the output figures given to the public are based on coal weighed and checked by the check-weighman on the pitheads or whether the figures are ascertained after the coal and slack has been screened and washed; and, as the difference between these two totals represents thousands of tons, if he will in future specify upon what basis the official output is estimated.

Mr. Gaitskell

The figures of output of coal issued by my Department relate to saleable output, that is, the output after the dirt has been removed by screening and washing. This is made clear in the publications concerned.
