HC Deb 04 December 1947 vol 445 c87W
51. Mr. S. Shephard

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that in Midland factories the output per man hour is showing a downward trend since the four-day working week was introduced in October; and if he will endeavour to institute a five-day week whilst still avoiding power cuts.

Mr. Isaacs

I have no evidence that this system in so far as it has involved the adoption of a four-day working week, has resulted in a decrease in output per man hour at the establishments concerned. The effects of the load-spreading arrangements are being kept under review by the Regional Board.
