§ 84. Mr. Attewellasked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware that master bakers in Leicestershire are receiving 100 per cent. outcrop coal for use in bakehouses; and, as Leicestershire outcrop coal is unsuited for this purpose, what steps are proposed to ensure supply of fuel suitable for use in bakehouses.
§ Mr. GaitskellNo. My regional officer reports that he has received no complaints from bakers in Leicestershire other than the case which my hon. Friend has brought to my notice. In that case I am informed that arrangements have been made for a supply of deep-mined coal.
§ 85. Mr. Attewellasked the Minister of Fuel and Power if guidance is given to coal merchants in Leicestershire to ensure that the various industries receive the type of coal, both deep-mined and outcrop, suited to the requirement of the industry.
§ Mr. GaitskellThe types of coal which a 'particular industrial undertaking can reasonably be expected to use are normally known to the National Coal Board from the detailed records they possess, and coal is allocated by the Board, having regard to the supplies available, to the individual consumer in the light of that information, supplemented, where necessary, by reports made by my regional fuel engineers. Where a merchant or factor is employed he is advised by the Board of the tonnage and quality allocated for supply to the consumer in question.
