HC Deb 04 December 1947 vol 445 c89W
66. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what additional burden has been accepted by His Majesty's Government under Article V of the Anglo-Iraq Financial Agreement in the provision of convertible sterling above the £5,750,000 per annum set out in the agreement.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

None. Article V deals with the carry-over; and, so far as it relates to previous agreements, merely states the existing position.

67. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why, in view of this country's present liabilities under the Anglo-Belgian Financial Agreement, His Majesty's Government have assumed further liabilities for the provision of Belgian currency under the Anglo-Iraq Financial Agreement.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

The Anglo-Iraq Financial Agreement does not impose new liabilities on His Majesty's Government, but limits by mutual consent the hard currency commitments which Iraq, a member of the sterling area, will incur during the period of the agreement.
