§ 97. Commander Maitlandasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that goods purchased in this country and which are, on points are sold without restriction in the canteens of troopships returning from the Far East; whether a system of rationing points goods can be introduced in troopships; and what, steps are taken to prevent such goods being purchased by passengers and landed for their own- use when the ship arrives in this country.
§ Mr. BarnesGoods on sale in the canteens of troopships are intended for consumption on board. If brought ashore in the United Kingdom, they are subject to the usual Customs control. I will consider with the other Ministers concerned whether the present procedure requires alteration.
