Newton, an ex-Service 100 per cent. disability pensioner, 71, Grange Road, Orpington, Kent, is unable to obtain a permit to buy a motor car under the scheme for disabled ex-Servicemen; and if he will give an estimate of the number of secondhand motor cars at present in the various Government dumps all over the country.
§ Mr. BarnesAs I have informed the hon. Member in correspondence, this176W applicant is one of many on the waiting list for reconditioned ex-Service cars. He will be offered a car in his turn but cannot, in fairness, be given preference over earlier applicants. I am informed by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply that approximately 450 secondhand motor cars are at present in dumps throughout the country. These are either of types for which spare parts are unobtainable or are not suitable for economical reconditioning under the scheme for allocation to disabled ex-Servicemen.
