§ Mr. TomlinsonThe total number of classes with more than 40 pupils on the registers in January, 1946, was 40,058, of which 3,680 were in secondary schools and 36,378 in primary schools. The analysis of the figures for January, 1947, is not yet complete but there were at that time 2,807 classes consisting of pupils over the age of II with more than 40 pupils on the registers as compared with a figure of 5,101 in January, 1946.
