HC Deb 21 April 1947 vol 436 c65W
73. Sir R. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will give an assurance that it is still the policy of His Majesty's Government towards China to consider, when conditions improve, the aiding in the carrying out of other projects, unrelated to civil strife, to encourage economic reconstruction and reform in China and so to promote a general revival of commercial relations; and whether His Majesty's Governments in Australia and New Zealand subscribe to this policy.

Mr. Mayhew

Yes, Sir, but any projects must be considered in relation to His Majesty's Government's financial and economic position. As regards the latter part of the Question, my right hon. Friend cannot, of course, answer for His Majesty's Governments in Australia and New Zealand, but we should naturally, in accordance with our usual practice, keep in close touch with them in all matters of policy relating to the Far East.
