HC Deb 18 April 1947 vol 436 c51W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Prime Minister upon what principle Government Departments issue advertisements in journals; and why the "Jewish Standard," which consistently attacks British policy, constantly secures paid advertisements from Departments.

The Prime Minister

The space for Government advertising is purchased (through recognised advertising channels) on the principle of securing maximum results from the expenditure incurred. In the selection of media for the Government's various advertisements, regard is not paid to the political or other policies followed by the journals as organs of opinion, and I do not think that it would be the wish of the hon. Member that Government advertising should be placed in such a way as to give preference to journals supporting, rather than dissenting from, Government policy.
