asked the Minister of Labour the numbers of men and women, respectively, employed as shop assistants in the city of Portsmouth at the latest convenient date, together with the numbers unemployed.

Information is not available as to the number of shop assistants in Portsmouth, but at July, 1946, there were 3,900 insured men and 4,100 women in all occupations in the distributive trades including clerks, transport workers, etc.;, as well as shop assistants.; At 10th March, 1947, there were 19 unemployed men and 91 unemployed women registered at the Portsmouth Employment Exchange as applicants for employment as shop assistants.
